Frank Sumares was a real force in the SF Bay Area jazz scene for many years as an educator, adjudicator, mentor, and pianist. He also, literally, wrote the book on jazz piano chord voicings . This original was written in his memory and is perfect for junior high and developing high school jazz bands.

Several times at jazz festivals, a certain adjudicator made mention of the fact that I liked rock charts. This original was my comment on the matter. There are a couple of fast licks and some trumpet range but, overall, the chart is very playable; and fun! The trombone soli later in the chart has sax cues in case you don't have a full 'bone section. The preview features a complete recording with alto sax and guitar solos but any instrument could solo over the blues-oriented changes.

This one is special! The original song was written and recorded by Kevin Gilbert (know as Kai Gilbert when first recorded) and was arranged by Jay and Kevin for the Joan Rivers Late Show Band, which was a jazz/rock band with reduced instrumentation. This new, revised arrangement is for full big band.

This beautiful trumpet feature is a combination of the Neil Diamond classic I'm a Believer reimagined as a ballad (including new re-harmonization) and the 1950s inspirational hit I Believe arranged in straight ahead swing style, also with updated jazz harmonies. A solo section in the latter features both trumpet and tenor sax.
