Red is the Rose is a traditional Irish ballad of unknown origin. It's sung to the same tune as the famous Scottish song Loch Lomond and has a similar theme: the sadness of parting with one's lover. This arrangement is fairly simple and an excellent way to feature the men in one's choir. It could also be sung as a featured quartet.

This transcribed arrangement by Alex Jordan (as recorded by the Leipzig Radio Chorus ) of a beautiful melody by Ludwig van Beethoven is a great introduction to fine choral writing and a chance for your men's choir to work on their German. Largely homophonic, this is an excellent piece to teach blend and balance and would be a great choice to work on sight reading for more advanced groups.

Sting's contribution to the 1987 CD A Very Special Christmas was his arrangement of the traditional Basque carol Gabriel's Message. This version is a transcription with additional arrangement by Jay Jordan and would make a unique addition to a Christmas concert. The simple drum and tambourine accompaniment can be played by two of the singers. It would also make a great small group feature. Please indicate either TTBB or SSAA version

Irish folk singing is a wonderful tradition spanning hundreds of years and includes subjects ranging from romance to resistance. Many songs were created and subsequently preserved in pubs and other informal gatherings. The three songs included in this medley, Whisky in the Jar, Will You Go, Lassie, Go (Wild Mountain Thyme), and Wild Rover (No Nay Never) are popular to this day and have made their way beyond the pub to the concert stage, and even the big screen. Your choir will love singing these sure crowd-pleasers and your audience will enjoy joining in the fun when your singers encourage them to clap along in the appropriate spots.
